About Me

Sissy Dre was inspired by my father, Robert Felix Rosales, particularly his stylish clothes and big-hearted ways of being. My father was always open to any new hobbies or opportunities and especially enjoyed meeting new people. I take on this creative venture to honor him in my own way. Creating from scratch has opened artistic doors within me that I never knew existed and I hope this blog helps to inspire some crafty part of you too. 000000

Valentine's Day Doll ~ Angel

It's Saturday morning and just finished Valentine's Day Doll number 3. Although I didn't finish her by class time, she is complete now.
And I now have to incorporate "time management" into my projects.
I did know this in the beginning, however ~ time has a way of sneaking up on ya ~ and it got me.

So I dedicate today going forward to ~ getting things completed in a timely manner ~ Sounds good on paper but will see...

February Girl 2010

February is the month of red. Well, that's how I'm feeling. Last week had art doll class two days in a row, lots of homework this weekend and got one doll completed and need to get one more done by Wednesday morning.

This doll started out as a fairy but, as you can see no wings were added to her. And again, I'm still on the Valentine fabric kick.

My mentor Janet Schultz let us students, pick out hair. Yes, lots of different colors as well as textures that have not even crossed my mind. That's why she's leading this pack, and I love it.

One down, one to go ~

"YOU"

Happiness is a choice, and you are the one who's responsible for it.
As long as you keep in mind the importance and value of you, you will handle anything that the world throws your way. You will succeed because of the power, the spirit, and the vision of you.

Valentine Day's Doll ~ "Edna Mode"

Love is in the air
More than one day a year
But Valentine's Day
Makes everyone say
"I Love You" to those that are dear.

Red is such an exciting color ~ the fabric store thought so too.

I've been throwing around the idea of actually making a art doll, to it's full size. In the past, most of the patterns I've been working on have been reduced down to 75%. I spend lots of time at kinkos,  reducing patterns.

I was pretty much, intimated by anything larger than 14" tall. Lots of factors to consider, like, the amount of stuffing, how much detail would need to be accomplished in the hands, legs, and especially the face. Can you say "scary"

I took a potential pattern out and set it a side, on my work table for a couple of days. As I worked on other projects, I would look over at the pattern and wondered if I could really make this art doll in the original 100% size, without reducing the image down.  Hum, hum, hum, ~ could I do it?

After working on other various projects, I was ran out of "stuffing". Now... I had to venture out to the fabric store with my trusty coupons.  Their I was, thinking I only need stuffing, I have lots of things at home to continue my current projects, don't need anything else. What a novel concept.

I walked into the fabric store, what do I see?

Only the most fabulous amounts of "Valentine Day" themed fabric E-V-E-R.  Red strips, small red stars, red & white circles, small and big red pin strips, red ribbons, small and large colored hearts of red and white, and lots of red fun everywhere.

So I bought some. Yupiee.

When I got home ~ I looked over at "Miss Americana" and embraced the challenge of making my first 26" original full size, art doll.

"Miss Americana" 26" tall by R&K Creations Art Doll,  was ready to be conquered, by me.

And I named her "Edna Mode"~

I hope you enjoy her as much as I did making her ~ Much Love ~ Andrea

Angel Doll

When I started making this doll, she was going to be a pumpkin girl. Because, as you know I love, love, love, really like and enjoy Halloween. And I'm targeting in this new venture, year round "Ghoulish Halloween" items.  I got out lots of Halloween fabrics, embellishments, fall decorations, etc. and surrounded myself with it. FUN.

As the hours progress I turned on the radio, flipping thru the stations, stopping and listened to some songs that I liked. After the song was over, I got up again, changed the station, for the various reasons of.. too much talking, to many commercials,  etc.

Turning the knob on the radio, which takes a bit of time vs. pushing the pre-set button, the word "believing" in a song was playing. It was the song "Don't stop Believing" by Journey. That's what did it! The softer side of me gravitated toward lighter colors and some white paint and hair.

And the result, of that experience ~ produced "Miss Angel Doll" ~ She has special powers ~ I really like her, and her heart lips.

An example of faith, found on the wall of a concentration camp. On it a prisoner had carved the words:

I believe in the sun, even tough it doesn't shine.
I believe in love, even when it isn't shown.
I believe in God, even when he doesn't speak

Much Love ~ Thank you for stopping by ~

Birthday Girl Doll ~

2010 It's official  ~ launching into the "Art Doll" business venture with Janet Schultz this year.

Both of us bring experience from the "corporate america" area ~ Janet has been sewing since she was a little girl, making her own clothing for various occasions in grade school and high school and now into various other media's that she shares openly.  Her spirited heart keeps her young and fun and is always looking for new creative ways to create. I 'll contribute to our websites, and marketing tactics, as well as learning the secrets of sewing.

Janet and I met at Piecemakers last October when I took her "Primitive Pilgrim" class. Since then we've been sharing and collaborating daily.

This Saturday Jan 9th, Piecemakers in Costa Mesa, CA is having a "Annual Open house with Piecemaker's Teachers" from 1-4pm.

Janet will be providing her class schedule on "primitive creations" as well as tips and techniques.  I will be displaying some of the "Primitives" that I made in her classes, as well as newly created dolls.

The fun is just beginning, we have much to due, we'll be launching a joint "ETSY" site, creating signature art dolls, and attending lots of shows this year. I look forward to meeting and seeing you all.
